Intro

Sunday 6th December saw a whole herd of vegans (& those interested in a vegan lifestyle) descend once again on the Town Hall in Kensington, London for one of the best vegan events of the year, the Animal Aid Christmas Without Cruelty fayre.  This year we were in the upstairs foyer too close (for our own good!) to the veggies food stall.  Being the people we are that meant overfeeding on the fantastic veggies burgers (including the newly discovered 'Super burger' that had...well EVERYTHING with it!), so our faces being suitably stuffed & (I suspect) veggies fearing they might run out of stock due to our presence we settled down to doing the business of running the stall.

Coach Gary brought along a "Mens health" magazine which he'd been reading & we talked over a few training routine ideas with him, our very own James also brought along some stuff to sell for the Britches campaign & the new not-for-profit nutritional education organisation Evolve! campaigns he was heading up, which we all enjoyed getting a look at.  We also had a chance to meet up with Anthony who's working on a few projects outside of the training arena & Peter of Vegan runners who popped along to give us some support

I think this event was the first one I met several people who were facebook friends & turned them into real friends, I met a few over the day & it was great to get to know them.  We even got to joke with Coach Gary, trying to convince him to join the new 'cake nutrition' therapy we hastily created to tempt him with (he wasn't having any of it though).

I must admit we were pretty busy & I kind of forgot to take any pictures of the stall! Sorry about that - I will try harder to get a pic or 2 of the stall in action from now on!

Finally after a fun packed day it was time for the main event of the fayre - the push-up contest!

The shoulder press contest

I'd like to make it clear that although we do attempt to keep things the same for both males & females, we just couldn't get enough women to do full push-ups, given a choice we would have the same type of push-up for both males & females, but to get entrants we had to settle for females doing 3/4 push-ups on the knees for the female entrants.

First off I'd like to thank all the sponsors who made the event possible:

Animal Aid (campaigning to end animal cruelty everywhere!)

Plamil foods ('milks',chocolate & other foods from the 100% vegan  company)

The Redwood company (some of the best fake meats around)

Chunkies (fake jerky style snack)

Vegan Store (everything vegan online, food, clothes, make-up...everything)

Hempish (suppliers of everything hemp - clothing, cosmetics, food etc)

Honesty Cosmetics (one of the best 100% vegan cosmetic companies in the world)

Lush cosmetics (who are also supporting the hunt saboteurs so go & support them!)

Hunt Saboteurs Association (saving animals using non-violent direct action)

Viva! (A fantastic Animal Rights campaigning group)

After an exciting contest it was time for the prizes.

As we had 1 under 16 competitor she got first prize for the event & with 31 reps we were very impressed with Kali's strength!

For the female athletes we had Thorie leading the pack with a cracking 46 reps!  Unfortunately she couldn't stay for the end, so Michelle & Tam got the pick of the prizes

For the guys we yet again had the unstoppable Dave Arnold dominating the field..but we had promises that next year several people were going to prepare to take the title from the all-conquering Dave!

MC Maz shows off the hemp seeds for the crowd

Yes he wanted the cardboard wrapper? No he didn't enter, but we thought ok if you really want it

It was about now with the fayre closing that my camera threw a bit of a wobbly & dead, so we quickly made sure that everyone who entered picked a prize & rushed to pack up our stall & head for home.

It is unfortunate most of the team had to rush back as there were a few going out for the evening & it would have been nice to spend a little time socialising & chilling out, but as it was it was quick hugs goodbye & we all sadly left the fayre vowing to meet up again & try & make the event even better in 2010!

Once again if you haven't checked them out yet go & see what our sponsors have to offer as they keep the us doing this year after year!
